Winter dress: layering is key
- Base layer: a quick-dry, moisture-wicking layer — avoid pure cotton, which gets cold once damp.
- Mid layer: fleece or down for warmth, added or removed with the temperature.
- Outer layer: a windproof, water-repellent shell or thick down coat against wind chill.
- Accessories: hat, scarf, gloves, thick socks and non-slip snow boots to protect head, neck, hands and feet.
Winter kit list
- A thermos, heat patches, lip balm and hand cream against the dry cold.
- Sunglasses or snow goggles to cut glare off the snow; a face covering if needed.
- A power bank and spare camera batteries — the cold drains power fast.
Other seasons
- Summer: light, breathable clothing, sun protection and a hat; a thin jacket for the cooler mornings and evenings.
- Spring and autumn: onion-style layering for the temperature swings, with a windproof jacket and rain gear.
Note
In ice and snow, "sweat then wind" is the easiest way to catch cold — adjust clothing promptly and dry off; shoes must be non-slip and warm.
